About the job
Our WHE Mechanic performs a variety of duties to disassemble, inspect, repair, assemble and test Welded Heat Exchanger products to bring them up to specification standards, including welding. Products supported include Spiral and Compabloc WHE units for our internal and external customers.
As part of the team, you will:
- Assist in shipping, receiving, counting, labeling and distribution of Alfa Laval parts/customer equipment
- Assist in performing equipment receipt, uncrate, clean and strip units
- Assist in opening, complete disassembly, prepping, reassembly and testing customer equipment as needed
- Utilizes pneumatic, power, hydraulic and hand tools to complete tasks
- Assist in cleaning hardware, chasing threads, and installing hardware as needed
- Dye penetration inspection process – Hand clean areas to be inspected, clean dye areas, rinse remaining dye from plates, liners and nozzles
- Moves material as needed via forklifts, overhead cranes, mobile tables, hand trucks, etc.
- Recognizes and communicates the need for replenishment of supplies
- Keeps work area and surrounding equipment clean and organized. Performs housekeeping as required at the facility to maintain a professional presentation – 5S
- Perform daily safety tasks (i.e. daily forklift inspections, under hook chain/sling inspections,
- Participate in On-The-Job training for self as directed on reconditioning processes
- Develop knowledge and understanding of Alfa Laval approved SOP’s and WI’s
- Active and positive participant in ALPS meetings and improvement initiatives
- Perform work in other areas as needed to level work load
- Perform other duties as directed by Management

Reports to Service Center Manager or Supervisor. Must work independently to evaluate and repair products. Must work unsupervised performing job responsibilities as trained and instructed. Cooperate with Team Leader (or designee) and work effectively in a strong team environment; continually seeking ways to improve repair process and techniques. Must be able to interact in a professional manner with administrative staff and co-workers.

What you know:
High School degree or Equivalent
Welding certifications, a plus (ASME cert not required)
Typically 3 years manual repair/workshop/manufacturing environment
Experience operating fork lift trucks, hand pallet jacks and overhead cranes
Demonstrated ability to understand complicated blue prints, drawings, sketches and work instructions
Demonstrated good mechanical aptitude
Demonstrated good punctuality and work ethic
Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical problems
Basic computer knowledge and MS office suite (clocking in and out, scanning bar codes)
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Must be able to lift and carry 60 lbs. as required.
Must wear company supplied uniforms and maintain professional business presentation

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Travel may be requested for field service work (not a requirement)
