Field Service Engineer

As a Field Service Engineer, you will execute service work with low to medium complexity according to work instructions and in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards and safety guidelines. You will be in close cooperation with customers and other ABB teams, acting as the technical point while delivering quality and satisfying customer service. You will be responsible for planning and executing, with minimal professional guidance, complex technical field assignments involving the installation, modification, test, inspection or repair of company products and equipment. You may also coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting customer commitments. Since the Field Service Engineer is often the one who interacts with the customers operations people, they may also recommend measures to improve operations and customer service.

Your responsibilities

Follow ABB policies and business ethics, working in accordance with ABB procedures using applicable tools.
Submit job paperwork in a timely fashion immediately following the applicable job assignment.
Work independently to install, modify, test, repair or inspect company products and equipment including, but not limited to: low voltage and medium voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, protection relays and rotating machinery.
Perform or coordinate complex and diverse engineering activities associated with field projects.
Interpret technical drawings and schematics and make changes as necessary in the field to reflect work carried out on site.
Increase product and technical knowledge through factory or third party training, technical manuals and conventional or non conventional resources.
Troubleshoot and repair equipment, applying personal knowledge and experience, provides technical advice to customers on site and remotely, and work closely with project managers to coordinate site activity.
Assume the role of site manager on some projects and provide leadership in the assembly and operation of lab and field service equipment.
Record, compile and reduce data for analysis and assist in the subsequent assessment and reporting.
Lead assigned field services, responsible for planning, analysis and reporting of projects ranging in complexity from simple to advanced.
Assume the role of a mentor or an advisor to less experienced company personnel and customers.
Ensure quality and safe operations in the field.
Represent the company in conferences and meetings with customers.
Prepare or provide input for technical documents such as specifications, quotations, procedures or technical reports.
Report opportunities and problems to management.
Prepare timesheets, service reports, expense reports and other documents immediately following the work assignment.
Promote to customers ways to optimize their operations or make general improvements.
Seek other opportunities to promote customer satisfaction and foster harmonious business relations.
Assist the business development unit with technical knowledge for generating quotations and proposals.

Your background

Associate’s Degree in Engineering or other technical field and minimum 5 years of experience in Marine Power Generation and Power Distribution with a focus on Circuit breaker and switchgear maintenance.
Alternately a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments will be considered.
Strong knowledge of protection relays and excitation.
Familiarity with marine/offshore work environment and procedures.
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
