About the job
On the regional management team and reporting to the North America Managing Director/Cluster President, with a dotted reporting line to Group Legal & Compliance, this position is the primary source of legal and compliance support to regional entities of Alfa Laval’s operations in the North American Cluster – including United States and Canada. The position will work in close cooperation with Alfa Laval’s global legal and compliance colleagues as well as the regional management team.
From a daily responsibility standpoint, you will:
- Coordinate and manage the legal and compliance functions in North America with the Alfa Laval Group Legal & Compliance department.
- Provide legal support to the Cluster, with an underlying goal of risk mitigation, specifically:
- Providing general business advice.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Participating in high impact agreement negotiations.
- Educating colleagues in commercial contract, corporate governance and ethics.
- Provide legal support to the Cluster in the management and resolution of all disputes.
- Ensure that all companies are aware of and adhere to Alfa Laval Group Policies
- Responsible for compliance activities in the region.
- Provide local support, as needed, in such matters as M&A activities, capital markets and financing arrangements.
- Select, retain, manage and develop relationships with external law firms.
- Manage a team of three direct reports, two legal counsels and one Compliance Manager.
- Participate as a member of various corporate teams including Cluster Management Team, Benefits Committee and Crisis Management Team.
What you know
You have a JD from an accredited law school and:
- Currently licensed in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with ability to become licensed in Virginia within six months of hire.
- 7-10+ years of experience as in-house legal counsel or at a reputable law firm.
- Strong generalist legal foundation, including transactional, M&A, business, and commercial law expertise.
- Some experience in export control and trade sanctions and compliance is preferred.
- Digital transformation experience is a plus.
