The Project Engineer II in engineering manages and controls the scope, cost, schedule, and risk of assigned projects. The Project Engineer II in engineering collaborates across multiple functional organizations, systems/ design engineers, program/project management teams, component suppliers as well as the customer. Together, they execute the engineering design process, in a fast-paced environment, for development and integration of electrical and mechanical systems for military engine programs.
This position is a self-directed role with support from management and advisory engineers, who are at the ready, as required. A successful candidate would be willing to bring new, bold, and innovative ideas to solve problems and make improvements on mature programs. Predicated on performance, this role can lead to vast opportunities as this person will be the sole cognizant engineer on multiple programs and will lead any efforts required on these programs. This role offers opportunities to work with multiple cross functional team members, as well as management and customers.
Hybrid:
- Report onsite weekly (due to the nature of the work, the project may require you to report onsite 1-4 days a week. This will vary week to week.)
- Must be a commutable distance from Windsor Locks, CT to work a hybrid schedule reporting on-site as needed.
- This role is eligible for relocation, when qualified.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the design and integration of complex assemblies in accordance with Collins’s product development process.
- Provide design oversight for specifications, drawings, and test plans.
- Perform system and component requirements review and compliance assessments.
- Develop and manage project risk and mitigation plans.
- Develop and deliver detailed presentations for product design reviews.
- Support product verification, certification, and production incorporation
- Conduct Relentless Root Cause & Corrective Action (RRCCA) investigations for field and production engine test component removals.
- Coordinate Class I and Class II engineering changes utilizing the Collins and Pratt & Whitney Configuration Control Board processes.
- Coordinate efforts with the Category 1 supplier to carry-out any/all engineering tasks required to support program / customer milestones / objectives.
- Develop and present project status and closure plans to Collins / Customer engineering and program leadership.
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using strong planning and execution skills.
- Demonstrated experience multi-tasking, meeting challenging schedules and delivering on budget.
- Experience working across a highly matrixed organization, including team members, suppliers, and customers.
- Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Excel and Project experience.
