The Senior Program Manager drives strategy execution by providing direction, planning, and execution for the tech portfolio they support. They guide multiple project teams across various domains, maximizing resources and ensuring deadlines are met. Responsibilities include managing program risks and issues, overseeing program financials, change management, ROI analysis, stakeholder management, and program governance. Effective communication tailored to the audience is a key aspect of this role.

Additionally, this position may involve managing relationships with third-party vendors. The Senior Program Manager collaborates with constituent Project Managers to monitor cost, schedule, and technical performance of component projects and operations, ensuring the overall success of the program. 

What You Will Do

  • Drive High-Level Plan: Drive complex programs, providing leadership to ensure coordination and standardization of integrated solutions.
  • Project Execution: Oversee all program-related activities, ensuring accountability for the success, execution, and final delivery of the program and its work products.
  • Manage Project Scope: Obtain senior executive approval for the program by presenting the program charter, including high-level costs and benefits, to proceed to subsequent phases. Oversee regular project status/quality meetings and reports.
  • Address Program Issues: Keep leadership and key stakeholders well-informed on project or program progress, status, and concerns for each assignment. Review project metrics and raise concerns as needed. Address program issues by identifying and selecting a course of action, considering program constraints and objectives to enable continued progress.
  • Program Communication: Develop program communication plans and effectively communicate with the executive management team, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Cultivate Relationships: Cultivate relationships with business partners and project teams, managing expectations while providing excellent customer service. Establish alliances with other departments by recognizing dependencies to assess potential partnerships and commitment to the program.
  • Project Leadership: Provide leadership to the project team on standards and processes, offering suggestions for improvement. Provide governance and support to the teams they support through competent and professional services, including guidance, coaching, and counseling.
  • Develop Resources Plan: Provide input to ensure adequate project staffing, budgeting, and resource management.
  • Maintain Regular Attendance: Demonstrate regular, dependable attendance, punctuality, and perform other duties as assigned.

Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, including extensive understanding of project management principles, methods, and techniques, and proficiency in conducting ROI analysis and risk assessments.

Problem-solving and Decision-making: Ability to address program issues by identifying and selecting a course of action, considering program constraints and objectives to enable continued progress, and adjusting approaches based on research and experience.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Flexibility in response to change, with the ability to anticipate technical and project barriers and adjust approaches accordingly, while concurrently managing multiple project types.

Technical and Business Knowledge: Possession of advanced technical and business knowledge, particularly in software development, policy development, and retail operations, along with general knowledge of major systems and their integration.

Team Management and Interpersonal Skills: Sound team-building and interpersonal skills required to effectively manage multi-skilled projects throughout the deliverable process, fostering consensus between technology and business stakeholders.

Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: Extensive negotiation, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills, along with the ability to build consensus and manage expectations while providing excellent customer service.

Documentation and Organization: Outstanding documentation, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills, along with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products.

Continuous Learning: Demonstrated ability to customize communication strategy to a given target audience, along with the eagerness to continuously learn about emerging technologies, industry trends, and new methodologies.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 4+ years of Program Management experience (large initiatives with multiple project managers) or 9+ years of Project Management experience
